San Antonio FC got some much needed rest after their match last Saturday was postponed due to Hurricane Harvey. The club needs all the rest they can get as they hit the road for a month long road trip.

The trip will see SAFC take on some of the top teams in the Western Conference table. Prehaps none bigger than Saturday’s match with Real Monarchs SLC. The two teams are battling for the best record in the conference and the match is a must win for San Antonio, especially if they want any chance at the top spot.

“Every game from here until the end of the season is important,” SAFC defender Ben Newnam said after a recent match.

SAFC takes on visits California to take on LA Galaxy II and Orange County before finishing the trip against Swope Park. With the playoffs in sight, every match and every point could see San Antonio even closer to clinching that first ever playoff berth.

After a strong start, San Antonio has gone just 2-1-2 in their last five games and prior to their 1-0 win against Vancouver were 1-1-3 in their last five matches.

“We’re still in second place and in a really good spot, and we have the opportunity to climb up the table,” Newnam said. “Our goal isn’t to be in second, it’s to be in first. Our group is resilient and I know we’ll pull it together and bounce back.”

As of this writing, SAFC’s ‘magic number’ to clinch a playoff berth is 13. A win over Real Monarchs on Saturday would not only reduce that to 10, but still give them a shot at clinching the top overall spot.

Buckle up, boys. It’s going to be a fun and exciting finish to the 2017 season.
